(Keys rattle, and a door creaks open...) So… this is my place. It’s pretty cozy. Over there is my kitchen… yeah, and then right over here is my bed… Sorry that it’s a bit messy, you know I wasn’t expecting any guests *awkward chuckle* It gets a bit cold in the winter *longer pause* I don’t know why I told you that. Anyways... over there are my plants. I gave them names: this one’s Gregory... Persephone... Evangeline... Artyem... that one’s Utah.
This is Boy Crazy, here to take you on a journey: of love, fear hate passion. So buckle up, and prepare yourself, for what is to come.
1,2,3,4!
All my pots and pans are on the floor ‘cause my landlord still hasn’t fixed the leaky roof. My sheet pans they don't fit the oven and my burners are all crooked, how am I going to make dinner? The walls are so thin I can hear all the things that my neighbors do, especially the raucous coitus...
The laundry still takes quarters and the bank’s already closed…
Does anybody have any quarters?
Livin’ like I’ve always been told to.
Livin’ like I’ve always been told to.
Guess it could be worse…
Well, it's close to public transit and right near where I work. There's almost enough room in here for the things I can't afford, but still not enough for the things that I can. I guess the neighbors are nice, in spite of their insatiable appetites.
I guess the rent’s okay!
Livin’ like I’ve always been told to.
Takin’ from the hats won’t save you.
Guess it could be worse…

Jumpin’ out, hit the scene --
feelin’ hot, oh baby you know what I mean.
Play the game, catchin’ eyes --
we do it every night, but I can not say why
I just want a little space -- too much --
a little time -- enough --
a little love -- it’s such
a total waste to be
completely in between
you and a brand new me
The siren call drifts on in my head,
pulls me along the cool riverbed.
This raft it feels like I’m homebound.
Just keep me off of solid ground.
The siren call drifts on in my head,
pulls me along the cool riverbed.
This raft it’s takin’ me home now.
Carefree float, kickin back,
so content -- ain’t nothin I could think to lack --
Just hang on, stay afloat,
I guess one day all go the way of the pay phone
Wait there’s not enough space,
don’t have too much time,
don’t say such is life.
These legs they will fight --
gotta stay in the light --
kick, claw, scratch and bite.
The siren call drifts on in my head,
pulls me along the cool riverbed.
This raft it feels like I’m homebound.
Just keep me off of solid ground.
The siren call drifts on in my head,
pulls me along the cool riverbed.
This raft it’s takin’ me home now.

Co-Author

Been tryin’ to write a novel since I was twelve
It’d look so pretty sitting on that shelf
But I don’t have the patience to do it by myself
Can’t get the words out from where they dwell
I need a coauthor - but I got nothing to offer
I need a partner - a closer or a starter
I need a coauthor - like someone from Oxford
Or wherever you have graduated from.
Been big on fantasy and science fiction
‘Cause stories in the real world have too much friction
Don’t have the words to meet this predilection
I need someone to give me that proper diction
I’d send you a manuscript
And you’d return it covered in red ink
From my mind all other thoughts would slip
Ignoring sleep I wouldn’t catch a wink
‘Til you and I were proud of what we’d made
Worth it all the time it took
Looking at the words we read
Oh - it’d be such a lovely book…

Rainy Day

I woke up on that morning, couldn't believe what I was seeing
The whole world around me had turned into a dream
The giants they were burning, and the oceans were jumping from the sea
Then the man came on the TV:
and shouted it's okay.
He said that it’s okay,
but it's not okay
I fell asleep on that same night, couldn't believe what I was seeing
The old world that I once knew was once again in my dreams.
The kings and queens of the prairie were once again on their epic journey.
And the savage ursine lord of the north still had ice beneath his feet.
Then the radio woke me up
and I heard the expert say:
She said that it’s too late...
She said it’s too late...
Oh, but I don’t think it’s too late.

Competition

Paycheck after paycheck, bill after bill
The only thing that can distract me
is what’s happening on the hill
They promised lower taxes, and to save my dying job
Now they’re drinking champagne
And my rent keeps going up
I'm finding out it's all a competition
What more can I sell, what more can I buy?
I don’t care who its from and I don’t care why.
If it’s not on Amazon how good could it be?
I’ll look the other way so long as shipping’s free
Paycheck after paycheck, bill after bill
I’ll throw anyone under the bus
Just to get my fill
Call me a class traitor, call me what you will
I don't need to listen
cuz you're at the bottom of the hill
I'm finding out it's all a competition
What more can I sell, what more can I buy?
I don’t care who its from and I don’t care why.
If it’s not on Amazon how good could it be?
I’ll look the other way so long as shipping’s free
It’s a bull market so I sold my soul to the lowest bidder
And I climbed my way to the bottom rung to get a closer look at the competition
It’s a bear market so I try to buy back all I’ve sold
And this corporate America’s got its boot on my neck
But I like it

Ship of Theseus

I’m lost without a cause
Sure I had my share of flaws
Not sure how I got here
And my way back out ain’t clear
Well I know one day I’ll be found
But I doubt I’ll be around
When it happens send my best regards
And you’ll find me up in the stars
Oh yeah
Well I’m lost without a trace
Suspended in this empty place
Can’t help looking down upon
All these meaningless everyday goings on
Well I know one day I’ll be found
But I’m not gonna be around
When it happens send my regards
I guess it just wasn’t in my cards
I’m lost for good now I’m sure
I never got time to just explore
The first attempt that I made
Just wasn’t enough I’m afraid
Well I know one day I’ll be found
But I doubt I’ll be around
When it happens send my best regards
And you’ll find me up in the stars
Well what is this that I see?
Someone comin’ down for me!
Well I knew one day I’d be found
Turns out I was around
Never had to send my regards
Just had to let down my guard
Oh, Oh
Oh, Oh no!

Competition (Reprise)

We’re Gonna Fight On
You ain’t no competition
Yeah we’re gonna fight on
You ain’t no competition
‘Cause when push comes to shove
When kick comes to kick
Know that we’re gonna
Gonna Fight on
We’re Gonna Fight On
You ain’t no competition
Yeah we’re gonna fight on
You ain’t no competition
‘Cause when push comes to shove
When kick comes to kick
Know that we’re gonna
Keep fighting on
It’s a new kind of market
But I still can’t buy back all I’ve sold
And your credit score won’t buy clean air
Even though you’ll need it
With their boots still on our necks
And we’re fighting for each breath we take
It’s about time that we push them off
Or we’re not going to make it

Nuclear winter’s got its perks
There’s no more lines for shopping clerks
I just walk in, take what I need
And it’s always cold, never liked the heat
Radiation’s not so bad
It cooks my food, charges my iPad
Mutation got my hands now there’s four
But I can’t complain ‘cause I can hold you more
The only thing my dad asked me when i last saw him
is how i learned to stop worrying and love the Bomb.
Well, Dad if you’re listening I hope you’re well,
‘Cause life in the aftermath is really quite swell.
The president went underground
with thirty girls: his own harem.
They’ll be back in a thousand years,
but honestly we’re doing fine up here.
My wife and I have bred like rats.
To feed our kids hunt with our ears like bats,
if our food supply ever hits a hitch
Then we’ll just go down and eat the rich.
The only thing my dad asked me when i last saw him
is how i learned to stop worrying and love the Bomb.
Well life in the afterglow is really quite rad
as long as you don’t mind working with four hands
There’s no more student debt and no more loans!
So, my wife and thousand kids and I can finally have a home.
So how I learned to stop worrying and love the Bomb?
Well maybe the Bomb was the least of our worries all along.
